The
African National Congress said it was confident that the expulsion of the
National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa from the tripartite alliance
would not affect the party's chances of retaining control of the Nelson Mandela
Bay Municipality.
The
party's National Executive Committee member Bheki Cele was campaigning in
Sidwell yesterday where he addressed COSATU shop stewards ahead of next month's local
government polls.
The
Nelson Mandela Bay, with its motor manufacturing sector, is a NUMSA stronghold
which was expelled from COSATU in 2014.
Cele
recalled how he addressed an almost empty hall in New Brighton two months ago.
