Two people will appear in the Caledon Magistrates Court on charges of attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving and the possession and transportation of abalone.

The suspects were arrested after police received a tip-off that a silver Jeep was suspected of transporting abalone from Hermanus to Cape Town.

Police spotted the vehicle on the R43 and ordered the suspects to pull-over.

The men ignored the order and collided with the police vehicle before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

They were arrested a short while later.

Police seized 203 units of fresh abalone worth an estimated R101,500.

The suspects' vehicle was also seized.
