ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe yesterday allegedly
warned the party’s Buffalo City Metro mayoral candidate Xola Pakati that the
party would not hesitate to remove him if he did not deliver on ANC promises.
Mantashe was addressing a packed East London City
Hall yesterday as the party officially smoothed Pakati as mayor in waiting.
Mantashe
said Pakati should strive towards uniting warring ANC factions in the region
and should prioritise the delivery of decent services to BCM citizens.
Pakati, who is currently the city’s deputy mayor,
is set to take over the mayoral baton from Alfred Mtsi, should the party retain
BCM after the August 3 elections.
