Dudu Myeni’s reappointment raises many eyebrows

There’s been a lot of concern regarding the reappointment of Dudu Myeni as South African Airways’ board chairperson.

Government announced yesterday that Myeni has been reappointed to serve a one-year term, while 11 other board members have been appointed on three-year terms.

Even though government agrees that she has expertise in business strategy and development, Myeni has been blamed for the airline’s financial difficulties.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse says the previous board stripped the airline of past excellent senior staff and has called on the new board to reappoint suitably-skilled personnel to turn the airline around. It also says that Myeni should be held responsible for poor governance and performance issues at the airline, saying it’s a pity government didn’t use this opportunity to remove her from the board.
