27 children have been injured this morning after a collision between two transport vehicles on the R603 in Umbumbulu, KwaZulu Natal.

Emergency services arrived on the scene and found a bakkie and light delivery van parked on the side of the road.

Children, believed to be aged between 6 and 10, were found walking around on the scene.

Paramedics assessed the children and found that they had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were reported on scene.

Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

It is believed that the children had all been travelling in the delivery vehicle, on their way to school, when the collision occurred.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
