Liquor bill: DA to present proposed objections and amendments

Leonie Pretorius

06 November 2016

Tomorrow, DA members of parliament, will brief the media on the problematic aspects of the Draft Liquor Bill, as well as their proposed amendments.

The DA in a statement says the government has failed to take into account the knock-on effects of blanket prohibitive clauses of the Draft Liquor Bill to a point where countless jobs will be compromised and the intended social ills of alcohol abuse remain neglected.

The DA also says it will not allow government’s lack of rigour when proposing draft legislation to negatively affect the livelihoods of South Africans and that it will continue to fight for a fair and constructive policy that provides more job opportunities and addresses social ills effectively.
