Two people, including a teenage girl, have been wounded in separate shootings in Clarkes Estate in Elsies River.

Gun battles between rival gangs continue to plague the community.

On Thursday night, police responded to Northdene Court where a 16-year-old grade 11 pupil at Elsies River High School was shot in the chest.

The police's Frederick van Wyk says: On arrival, they were informed the 16-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

She sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. A second victim, aged 26, was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
