Chanelle McCrawl's killer uncle sentenced two life terms

Carlo de Kock, who was accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering his ten-year-old niece Chanelle McCrawl, has been sentenced to two life terms in jail.

The proceedings took place at the Cape High Court on Tuesday morning. Judge Gayaat Salie-Hlophe during arguments in mitigation and aggravation of sentencing for accused Carlo de Kock. Salie-Hlophe ordered that De Kock, 34, be given five years behind bars for kidnapping his niece on 19 October 2017 in Manenberg. Salie-Hlophe said she had no other sentence to impose but two life terms for the rape and murder of Chanelle and said he had to be removed from society. Chanelle McCrawl was reported missing, after she did not arrive at school.

The heartless man’s DNA matched to the murder after his semen was found on Chanelle’s grey school pants. He claimed that on the day of the murder, he was intoxicated with tik and dragged the little girl into the Wendy house. She resisted and fell, hitting her head on a brick. He has been sentenced another five years for defeating the ends of justice after he cleaned up the crime scene and dumped Chanelle’s body which was bruised, battered and wrapped in a curtain and shopping bag at a river near her home in Audrey Court, Manenberg
