Western Cape health department believes it has enough beds to deal with covid-19 resurgence

Due to the increase of the covid-19 infections the Western Cape Health Department believes that it has sufficient bed space to cope with re-emergence.


There has been a 63% hospitalization increase with a 75% critical care admissions.


Dr Keith Cloete provincial head of health, stated that in the past two-weeks there has been an increase with over 900 like in September covid-19 hospitalized reached a low of under 500. He was astonished large number of people becoming ill in hospital such as Groote Schuur, Tygerberg, Somerset, Mitchells Plain and Brackgate which then 10% in September to over 110 on Wednesday.


Cloete said despite all private hospital having the capacity they are turning to the public sector for assistance although government hospitals are also under pressure. He warned that the death rate was also going back up
