A fire has worked its way through the Masiphumele informal
settlement, situated near the Fish Hoek area, during the early morning hours (1am)
today.
So far, no injuries have been reported at the settlement, however
more than one thousand infrastructures have been destroyed.
In Addition to this, the fire also went up the mountain slopes
abover Victoria Road between Bakoven and Llandudno. It has been reported that
those fired have also been contained.
Eight fire trucks as well as helicopters were called to help fight
the fire after receiving a call at around 4:13pm. Later, the wind got too
strong and the helicopters were grounded.
The police was called to the scene , to help control a group of
individuals who was trying to interfere with the firefighter’s jobs. Mayor Dan
Plato said that he would declare a local disaster within the next 72 hours.
