6000 mandrax tablets confiscated in George

A 35-year-old suspect will appear in the George Magistrates’ court on Monday, after George police confiscated 6 000 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R300 000.

‘’On Saturday, 09 January 2020 at about 11:40 members attached to the Provincial Detectives Narcotics Section responded to information on a motorcycle that was enroute from Cape Town with a consignment of drugs. The motorcyclist noticed the police members while entering George and turned in an attempt to evade arrest. A chase ensued and the vigilant members managed to stop the motorcycle at Knysna Road, George,’’ says Brigadier Novela Potelwa, Western Cape SAPS spokesperson.

In a separate incident, Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit conducted stop-and-search operation in the area on Friday. They approached a 25-year-old man and searched him, whereby they found him being in possession of mandrax, heroin and tik. The suspect was arrested for possession of drugs, he will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on Monday.

Meanwhile, Elsies River police confiscated mandrax tablets and dagga weighing about 312grams at a house in Leonsdale on Friday.

‘’Police investigation continues to trace the suspect in this incident.’’ said Novela Potelwa.
