A Golden
Arrow bus driver suffered a gunshot wound to his mouth while dropping off
passengers at Jaftha Masemola Street in Khayelitsha on Friday.
Three
suspects reportedly approached the bus and one of them fired a shot through the
windscreen, hitting the driver.
The other
two suspects are said to have boarded the bus and robbed the driver of his
cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The
criminals also robbed passengers before fleeing the scene.
Police
spokesperson FC van Wyk said the driver managed to drive the bus from the scene
to the police station. He was then transported to a nearby hospital for
treatment and the police are investigating cases of attempted murder and armed
robbery.
SAPS spokesperson, Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, said that due to Covid-19 protocols, they were not allowed to visit the driver but have been calling the hospital to check on him. He is apparently doing well.
