Suspects to appear in Khayelitsha court for unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Khayelitsha police recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Friday night.

‘’On 27 May 2021 at 21:15, members attached to Tactical Combat Task Team (TRT/POP) on deployment to focus on extortion in Khayelitsha area were doing patrols in Y block when they spotted a group of men in front of a tavern at Khosa Street Y 745, Site B and approached them,’’ said the police’s FC van Wyk.

Van Wyk said that the group immediately ran onto the tavern premises but was stopped by police officials.

‘’Upon searching the individuals and the surroundings two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were found and confiscated.’’

The suspects, aged between 23 and 39, were arrested and detained at Khayelitsha police station on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

They are due to appear in the Khayelitsha magistrate's court on Monday.
