Langa Community Counseling Services office administrator Anele Ggqasana said they challenged the health department to deal with the vaccination allocatio problem.
The Langa Community Counseling
Services office received numerous complaints from seniors having to travel to
Mitchells Plain to be vaccinated, with others voicing concerns for their
safety, as some of these areas do not have public transportation
65 year old Cikizwa Malgas,
stated she was waiting for a new date as she refused to be vaccinated in an
area that was not suitable for her and therefore gave up on the appointment.
She said,” The government should offer
everyone the same means and opportunities to get vaccinated and not prioritize
certain areas”
Health Ministry spokesman Mark
Van der Heever said the Vanguard Community Health Clinic was online to serve
the Langa region as early as Friday. He said It has always been part of a
systematic scale-up, based on vaccine availability. As more and more sites come
online, more slots will be available in more facilities closer to everyone.
Van der Heever said those who had received an
appointment outside their region could contact 0860 142 142 for assistance.
