Nyanga police are probing a case of murder,
after Cape Town ANC councillor Nokuthula Bolitye was killed outside her
Crossroads home, yesterday.
This was not the first attempt on Bolitye's
life, she has survived another attempt on her life in 2020.
In that shooting, Bolitye and her son were shot
at, at their house.
According to the police’s Joseph Swartbooi, the
victim was seated in a minibus taxi in front of her home, when three unknown
males approached the vehicle and fired numerous gunshots at the victim.
Witbooi added that the suspects fled the scene
in an undisclosed direction and are yet to be arrested.
Executive Mayor Dan Plato expressed his
condolences to those affected.
‘’I am saddened to hear of the tragic passing
of one of our City’s ward councillors. I wish her family, friends, colleagues
and all who knew her and were close to her, strength during this period of
grief - they remain in my thoughts and prayers. Bolitye had been Ward 36 Cllr
for the past five years. The full circumstances are not yet known about the
incident, but it is believed that she was shot outside her home,’’ said the
City’s Executive Mayor, Alderman Dan Plato.
The ANC’s media spokesperson, Fiona Abrahams,
has called for calm whilst police are busy with investigations.
‘’ We
appeal for calmness because our colleague was loved and respected by the
community she served. We call on SAPS to solve this wanton crime as soon as
possible.’’
