There’s been 31 reported attacks on EMS officials in the Western Cape since the start of 2021. The latest incident occurred on Saturday, where an ambulance crew was stoned in Elsies Rivier.
“Fortunately there were no injuries and no
serious damages. EMS officials are placing their lives at risk and providing an
essential service to communities in the Western Cape and we’re urging
individuals to support EMS officials during these dire times,’’ says EMS
Director, Dr Shaheem De Vries.
Furthermore, EMS officials responded to 4 469
incidents in the Western Cape over the past weekend.
There were 148 incidents in red zone areas and
96 transport-related incidents. Red zone areas are where ambulance crews are
not allowed to enter areas without a police escort.
