Five dead in Villiersdorp accident involving bus and car

Five people have died in an accident involving a bus and a car on the R321, heading to the Theewaterskloof Dam in Villiersdorp on Tuesday morning.

The deceased are two farmworkers and three others that were travelling in a SUV. Four other farmworkers were seriously injured in the crash.

It’s understood that an SUV overtook another vehicle, collided with a truck that was transporting 57 farmworkers. The truck driver tried to avoid the head-on collision and drove off the road into a ditch.

‘’The call for assistance came through to EMS’ Communication Centre at 06:53 this (Tuesday) morning. A total of 2 rescue vehicles, 6 WCGH ambulances, 2 tangos and 2 private ambulances are at the scene and assisting patients. 27 patients have been transported to nearby hospitals,’’ said EMS’ Deanna February.
