Hairdresser sentenced to 20 Years for Killing Toddler

Hairdresser, Melvin Volkw has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his friend’s one-year-old son. The toddler was found dead in a drain near his grandma’s house.

Volkw returned to the Western Cape High Court’s containment room on Tuesday to hear his verdict. At the court It appears the cause of death of the infant could not be determined, as his body had already begun to disintegrate when it was pulled out of the drainage ditch on Whittebol Street in Melton Rose on April 2, 2019.

According to autopsy results, his only injury was a bruise-indicating discoloration of the back and sides of the neck, and the injury to the front of his head, as testified by his mother Davedine Lucas, was a bump against the light switch.

It seems at the time of the body of the toddle was found, he had already been missing for a week.
