The department of health in the Western Cape has reported an increase of 9.5% of trauma cases over the past weekend.
This comes
after government had lifted level restrictions that comes with having later curfews,
which may have allowed alcohol sales to spike than before and may have contributed
to the rise of trauma cases in the province.
The
department of health also reported that over the weekend there were 1,400
trauma cases in some of the hospitals in the Western Cape. While in the previous week trauma cases were sitting
at 1,300.
Chief of
operations at the Western Cape Department of Health Saadiq Kariem said that of
the 1,377 trauma related cases 46 of those came from gunshots while 390 were
from stabbings and 303 blunt sword cases and 150 coming from road accidents.
