Western Cape’s Social Development MEC condemns ongoing violence and abuse against women, in the province

The Western Cape’s Social Development MEC, Sharna Fernandez, has condemned the ongoing violence and abuse taking place against women, in the province.

This comes after 28-year-old Ruchian-Kay Lawak was allegedly stabbed to death multiple times by her ex-boyfriend, last week. furthermore, police are still searching for suspects, who shot and killed the three young women in Khayelitsha last week.

Fernandez says these attacks are a disturbing trend that must be addressed urgently within communities.

‘’The increasing attacks on the physically disabled, intellectually challenged and elderly women is deeply concerning. These attacks are a disturbing trend that must be addressed urgently within our communities,’’ said MEC Fernandez.

‘’We all have a duty to protect the most vulnerable! As such, I call on every member of society and all relevant stakeholders to help us in our fight against all forms of violence against women,’’ added Fernandez
