The Western Cape’s Social Development MEC, Sharna Fernandez, has condemned the ongoing violence and abuse taking place against women, in the province.
This comes after 28-year-old Ruchian-Kay Lawak was
allegedly stabbed to death multiple times by her ex-boyfriend, last week.
furthermore, police are still searching for suspects, who shot and killed the
three young women in Khayelitsha last week.
Fernandez says these attacks are a disturbing
trend that must be addressed urgently within communities.
‘’The increasing attacks on the physically
disabled, intellectually challenged and elderly women is deeply concerning.
These attacks are a disturbing trend that must be addressed urgently within our
communities,’’ said MEC Fernandez.
‘’We all have a duty to protect the most
vulnerable! As such, I call on every member of society and all relevant
stakeholders to help us in our fight against all forms of violence against
women,’’ added Fernandez
