Man succumbs to house fire in Mitchell's Plain

A man from Mitchell’s Plain has died in a house fire in the early hours of Wednesday.

The fire took place at a house in Rocklands.

The City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service’s spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse says fire crews had been alerted to the fire in Firefly Road at 00:08.

"Crews from Mitchells Plain, Ottery and Belhar were immediately dispatched to the scene where they found a house on fire and were told that one person was unaccounted for."

Firefighters searched the premises, which led them to the discovery of the man in one of the bedrooms.

"He had sustained fatal burn wounds. The fire was extinguished just before 01:30 and the scene was handed over to the police,’’ Carelse added.
