The Health Department has launched a ‘Vooma week’ that will run until 10 December as part of a bid to vaccinate a further million people ahead of the festive season.
The City of Cape Town’s health professionals
says it is making vaccinations against Covid-19 widely available with a number
of fixed and roving sites opening their doors on Saturday and Sunday.
Mayco member for Community Services and Health, Patricia van der Ross says health workers are on standby to help with any COVID-19 enquiries should you be hestitant.
''Vaccine hesitancy is prevalent in many
communities because of widespread misinformation. The Vooma vaccination weekend
gives residents an opportunity to go to one of the public health vaccination
sites and have all their questions answered, but also to get vaccinated.
Pre-registration is no longer a requirement, so individuals can literally
arrive at a vaccination site and will be guided through the entire process.''
Van der Ross encouraged Capetonians to visit
the sites, even if they have not yet registered.
‘’Getting vaccinated means you’re less likely
to end up in hospital or die should you contract Covid-19. I urge our residents
to make full use of these additional opportunities before we enter the fourth
wave of infections.’’
Additional incentives have been introduced to
help vaccinating people. These include:
·
Vooma vouchers of R200 for
people aged 50 years or older who come for their first vaccination; and
·
A lucky draw with hundreds of
cash prizes of R1,000, R10,000 and R100,000 for everyone who has received at
least one vaccination by the end of the year.
To gain entry into the lucky draw, people aged
50 and older that have been vaccinated before or on 31 December and whose
details are captured on the EVDS system will be eligible. Winners will be
contacted on the number they have given when they vaccinated.
