Western Cape Human Settlements MEC condemns Forest Village invasion

Western Cape Human Settlements MEC, Tertius Simmers, has expressed his disapproval of the attempted invasion of the Forest Village Housing Development.

About 150 residents from other areas in Cape Town, including Woodstock and Elsiesriver, allegedly invaded the housing development on Friday, and attempted to illegally occupy the Eersteriver development.

Simmers said that invasions are criminal and insisted that those involved face criminal charges. A case was opened with the South African Police Services.

The damages to the housing project, and cost thereof, is being determined.

The housing project, which commenced in 2016, has managed to provide about 3000 residents with housing.
