Man to appear back in court for killing lover

Abraham Mtsweni appeared on two counts of murder and the rape of 31-year-old Sesi Sibanyoni, who was killed in her flat on July 26, 2019.

Its alleged by the State that Mtsweni travelled to Cape Town from Pretoria to visit Sibanyoni on July 25, 2019, where he killed Sibanyoni next day while they were in her Maitland flat.

While travelling back, the accused was involved in a car crash and was admitted to hospital. The victim’s body was found in her flat on July 29, 2019, post-mortem results showed cause of death was manual strangulation.

The perpetrator confessed to his crime after his arrest but later said he said he had done so out of necessity and had been persuaded by the police, citing that the police sabotaged him to send him to jail.

The court will reconvene on Thursday when more witnesses are due to testify.
