Western Cape Police has deployed additional Forces including Anti-Gang Unit, due to the on-going gang violence within Manenberg.
The City’s Metro police, Law enforcement, LEAP Officers and
Traffic officers are on the ground ‘’to conduct high density patrols throughout
volatile gang hot spot areas.’’
Captain FC van Wyk said that the integrated operations
heeded numerous successes.
‘’Nine males aged between 25 and 39 were brought in for
questioning regarding the murders of opposing gang members. This action allowed
investigators to interview members of opposing gangs and to link perpetrators
to various crimes.’’
‘’One 25-year-old male was arrested and was charged for the
murder of a 24 year old male that was fatally wounded on the corners of
Duinefontein and Jordaan Street on Friday 11 March at 08:47,’’ added van Wyk.
The police Captain said officers arrested four suspects for
being in possession of firearms and ammunition.

A 15 year old boy was arrested on the 11 March
2022 at 16:40 in Gamka Street Manenberg.

A 28 year old male was arrested on 12 March
2022 at 11:20 in Vistula Road Manenberg.

A 23 year old male was arrested on 12 March
2022 at 22:00 in Christmas Tinto Road Tambo Village.

A 27 year old male was arrested for the
possession of 9mm rounds.
‘’One firearm was abandoned by a suspect and recovered
after SAPS members came under attack from the community allowing the suspect to
evade arrest. Twenty-two males aged between 16 and 69, and a 21-year-old female
were arrested for the possession of various drugs, ranging from tik, cocaine
and heroin,’’ said van Wyk.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile commended the members deployed within the Manenberg Policing precinct in putting a tight crime prevention grip on the precinct, disrupting the gang violence.
He encouraged the community to become actively involved in
crime prevention and by reporting any
criminal activities.
‘’Gang violence will not be tolerated in the Western Cape
and that these operations are set to continue until we are satisfied that law
and order has been restored”.
