A notorious gang member in Elsies River, Romano Abrahams, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in the Parow regional Court.
‘’The accused was
arrested on the 8th of September 2020 for the possession of a prohibited
firearm. Members were doing patrols when they spotted the suspect in Snarebrook
Road, Epping Forest. As they were approaching, he attempted to escape and
dropped a firearm. The suspect was apprehended and the firearm was seized.
Detective Sergeant Brooks started investigating and built a strong case against
him which he presented before the Parow Regional court,’’ said the police’s Ndakhe
Gwala.
The 25-year-old was
sentenced on the 25th of March. Western Cape Provincial
Commissioner, Lt. Gen., Thembisile Patekile, says Abrahams sentence should come
as a warning to other gang members.
‘’We trust that this
sentence will send a strong message that gangs and their violent behaviour will
not be tolerated in our communities. (I) commend Detective Sergeant Brooks and
the Elsies River SAPS detectives at large, for their strong drive and tenacity
in the fight against gangsterism which resulted in a successful conviction of a
notorious gang members in Elsies River.’’
