Drug Suspects Nabbed by Metro Police Officers

The City of Cape Town Law enforcement agencies made 362 arrests and issued 65 982 fines for traffic and bylaw transgressions over the past week.

One of the arrests made was a 37 year-old male, who was arrested for the possession of drugs and was apprehended by the South African Police Service at Gordon`s Bay. Police officers also impounded 142 vehicles and documented 59 294 traffic violations.

 JP Smith, who is the mayoral committee member for safety and security said the police officers were on patrol duty in Sir Lowry`s Pass road when the bust was made on Sunday. He said they noted a vehicle with dark tinted windows and noticed the driver was anxious during the inspection of the vehicle.

When the police searched the vehicle, they discovered the K9 xena gave a positive indication of drugs present. Officers also found a spray canister filled with 28 mandrax tablets and another canister by the driver`s seat containing 20 mandrax.

Metro police also found a packet of tik and over a thousand rand in cash.
