The Blue Downs Regional court sentenced Keanu May to 68 years imprisonment on Tuesday for murdering a rival gang member while he was out on bail for another murder he committed in 2021.
The incident occurred when the 17-year old was in Petrus Street in Kraaifontein in February last
year, when he saw an unsuspecting victim standing in his yard with his friends.
He then opened fire and killed him, and was later arrested and released on bail
on the same day.
Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala, said, “In July 2021, whilst on bail, the accused spotted
a rival gang member in the street and immediately pulled out a firearm and
fired several shots, fatally wounding him. He then turned around and shot a 9
year old girl in the neck, an adult female in the knee and then shot at another
person but he missed”.
After being arrested,
the
Anti-Gang Unit took over both cases and he was convicted on 9 charges.
May has been sentenced
to 68 years in imprisonment for committing two counts of murder, three counts
of attempted murder and for the possession of a firearm and ammunition.
