51-year-old suspect found in possession of underground cables

Members of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team conducted a joint operation on Wednesday with the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officers in a bid to fight theft and damage of vital infrastructure. They conducted compliance inspections upon their visit to scrap dealers in Delft. In one of the scrap yards in Belhar Business Park, members found the underground cables weighing 180,50 kg with an estimated street value of R30 000.

 Further investigation led to the discovery of another illegal scrapyard within the premises.  A 51 year old male suspect was arrested and detained at Belhar, and will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court once charged for possession of suspected stolen property.

In an unrelated incident, on Thursday members of the Task Team confiscated dagga during a search in Tiara Way, Leonsdale.

Crime Prevention Unit members searched a house in Leonsdale and found dagga with a total weight of 2.46 grams in a bedroom. A male suspect was arrested and he will appear in court, once he has been charged.
