In order to lessen the load shedding crisis in the country, Eskom has launched three programmes to procure much needed power for the national grid.
This comes after the
power utility managed to bring back some of its services and this programme will
see Eskom procure 1000 megawatts of power for the national grid.
According to Eskom
spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha, the three programmes will be
focusing on generators capable of supplying more than one Megawatt to the grid
as this lower the threshold to allow small producers to participate and play a
crucial role in decreasing power cuts.
“The combined impact of the programmes, predicted to exceed
1 000MW, will make an important contribution towards reducing the load shedding
burden on consumers.’’
‘’The aim is to sign the first power supply agreement
during the course of the current week, and for the power to start flowing through
the grid as soon as possible,” he said.
The power utility plans to sign the first power supply
agreement contract this week.
