Hawks confiscate drugs worth R1.3million near Somerset West

The Hawks arrested a 38-year-old male near Somerset West on Saturday, for being in possession of drugs worth R1.3 million.

‘’The Hawks’ South African South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) based in Bellville, together with Crime Intelligence Counter Narcotics and Gangs as well as Public Order Policing (POPS) reacted on information about a vehicle suspected to be carrying a consignment of drugs which was en-route to Cape Town,’’ said HAWKS provincial spokesperson, Zinzi Hani

‘’The information was operationalised with a strategic deployment. The team later pulled over the vehicle on Sir Lowry’s pass direction to Somerset West. A search of the vehicle ensued and the members found 33 000 mandrax tablets,’’ added Hani.

Hani said officers seized a silver Mercedes Benz. The suspect is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate Court on Monday on a charge of dealing in drugs.
