In a statement, Tiger Brands stated that the recall does not affect any other baby care products under the brand, such as Purity Baby Cornstarch Powder.

‘’The affected batch of raw materials does not meet our strict quality and safety standards. Please return any Purity Essentials Baby Powder products to your nearest stockist for a cash or coupon refund,’’ it said in a statement.

The National Consumer Commission has echoed the call.

“Although no injuries have been reported, we urge consumers to immediately discontinue the use of this product and return it to the point of purchase for a full refund. While this is a precautionary recall, we do not take it lightly as the end-users are the most vulnerable consumers,’’ said Acting Commissioner, Thezi Mabuza

Mabuza says these batches of the product were distributed nationally and to countries, such as Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, DRC, Seychelles, St Helena, United Kingdom, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Ireland, and New Zealand.

‘’The NCC requires suppliers to maintain a high level of protection for consumers by conducting quality checks before the distribution of products into the market; this will help manufactures to avoid these mishaps. Protection of consumers is the mainstay of the Commission; we, therefore, remind suppliers and manufacturers of goods and services that they also have an obligation to prioritise the safety of consumers. The Commission is monitoring the recall based on its Recall Guidelines” she added.
