Man hijacks police vehicle in M/Plain whilst officer is in it

Mitchell’s Plain police are probing cases of hijacking, theft, theft out of motor vehicle and attack on police, after an unknown man stole a police vehicle whilst an officer was in it.

The police’s FC van Wyk said officers were busy with a tracing operation in Strandloper Street, Rocklands, on Tuesday. The police spokesperson added that two officers exited the vehicle at the mentioned address, while the third person, a female detective Constable stayed in the passenger’s seat.

‘’While speaking with the complainant, the members heard the vehicle revving. When they looked they saw an unknown male in the driver’s seat. The suspect was struggling with the female officer. The Constable managed to escape the vehicle unharmed.’’

‘’The vehicle was later recovered in Morgan Village. No persons were injured during the incident,’’ added Captain FC van Wyk.
