Miquette Temlett from the DA, has been elected as Councillor for ward 5, in a recent by-election, which includes areas such as Bothasig, Burgundy Estate and Cape Farms.
The Independent Electoral Commission in the Western Cape
held a By-Election, on Wednesday. The vacancy was due to the resignation of the
previous councillor.
IEC head in the province, Michael Hendrickse, said special
votes were conducted to give an opportunity to more than 23 000 registered
voters on Tuesday, who applied and were approved to cast their votes at the
voting stations or voters who applied and were approved for home visits.
‘’The number of registered Voters in Ward 5 is 23 258 which
consisted of six voting districts where voting stations opened from 07h00 to
21h00.’’
The By-Election was contested by candidates from Africa
Restoration Alliance (ARA), Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters
(EFF) and African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP)
‘’The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal
Elections with 92.26% of the votes cast, compared to 87.69% during the 2021
Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday [Wednesday]was 24.59%,’’ says
Hendrickse,
Hendrickse says despite a low voter turnout, he was pleased
in the manner that the staff conducted the by-elections.
