R4.6 million’s worth of illicit cigarettes seized in Belville

In a joint operation, Western Cape police and Cape Town’s Metro police confiscated approximately R4.6 million’s worth of illicit cigarettes.

The City’s Mayco member for Safety & Security, JP Smith said officers searched five premises in Belville on Thursday when they made the discovery.

‘’At around 09:00, the officers searched five premises and recovered approximately 231 master cases of various illicit brands of cigarettes.  Three suspects aged 19, 32 and 25 were arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes and detained at Bellville SAPS.’’

‘’The contraband was booked in as evidence, and the case is now under further investigation by SAPS,’’ he added.
