Western Cape police have raised concerns after yet another victim was scammed through Facebook Marketplace.
The police’s Wesley
Twigg said a man was lured to Browns Farm on Thursday, under the pretext of
delivering advertised goods. Twigg added that he was robbed by four suspects on
Thursday afternoon.
‘’Nyanga police who
were on patrol were flagged down by the victim who related his ordeal. As part
of the police investigation into the crime incident, one of the suspects, a 17-year-old
female was spotted and arrested by the police. The search continues for the
remaining suspects,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
Once charged, she will
appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court.
This is the second incident
of its kind in October. Police in Nyanga have recorded several incidents where
advertisers are lured to Browns Farm, robbed and attacked. Last week, police
arrested six high school learners following an attempted robbery of a man, who
delivered a system, ordered on Facebook Marketplace, in Brown’s Farm.
Western Cape SAPS pleaded
with social media advertisers to exercise caution when dealing with potential
customers.
