’The City has received numerous complaints of drug related activities ranging from drug dealing, possession of drugs and drug abuse, firearm related activities ranging from shootings, possession of firearms including ammunition, illegal movement of firearms including ammunition and also the concealment of evidence,’’ said City of Cape Town’s Metro Police spokesperson, Superintendent Ruth Solomons.

‘’The City responds to complaints and does not choose which to attend or ignore,’’ she added.

Cissie Gool House leader and Reclaim the City member, Bevil Lucas, said as much as officers were civil to him, others allegedly did not get the same treatment.

‘’This morning, around 6a.m, I was woken by a loud knock on my door and (torch) lights flashing, there were officers explaining they are busy with a raid and searched my room, for illegal items, because I live alone I allowed them. They went about searching, as civil as they could, without untidying the room. What I subsequently heard from others, that there were a particular door in our section and broke the lock where the family, next door in fact opened and invited them. It was a link space where the family live.''
