19 bodies discovered at a mine in Krugersdorp

Following the discovery of 19 bodies at a mine in Krugersdorp, Gauteng police stated that there was no foul play suspected.

This is after the gruesome discovery was made on Wednesday afternoon, before a docket inquest was opened an inquest. Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said that the bodies might be suspected zama-zamas or illegal miners.

She said that the preliminary investigations suggested that the deceased were moved and placed where they were discovered. Police will announce cause of death once post mortem results come out. At the moment all the necessary role players were summoned to the scene.

Back in September, four bodies of suspected illegal miners were found at different spots on the Roodepoort farm outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

One body of an illegal miner was tied to a tree with gunshot wounds and three bodies were found at the farm where there is a disused mine shaft.
