A search is continuing for an adult fisherman, from George, who went missing on Saturday after a wave swept him off rocks from the shoreline while he and a fellow fisherman were reportedly collecting bait East of Gwaing River Mouth, near to Herold’s Bay.
The NSRI’s Craig Lambinon said despite an extensive air,
sea and shoreline search there remained no sign of the missing man.
‘’On Saturday, George Fire and Rescue Services received the
first alarm. At 09h56, Saturday, 12 November, NSRI Wilderness, George Fire and
Rescue Services, WC Government Health EMS rescue squad and ambulance, the SA
Police Services and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter were activated.’’
‘’NSRI Wilderness
launched the NSRI rescue craft V’s Rescuer from Herold’s Bay. The NSRI rescue
craft Oscars Rescue was towed to the scene and launched. They conducted sea
search efforts,’’ he added.
Lambinon said sea conditions hampered search efforts on
Saturday, and the search for the man continued the following day.
‘’Despite an extensive air, sea and shoreline search there
remained no sign of the missing man. On Sunday NSRI Wilderness launched the
NSRI rescue craft Ann Stratford and Spirit of Rotary. NSRI Wilderness rescue
swimmers and crew, George Fire and Rescue Services and WC Government Health EMS
rescue squad conducted shoreline search efforts while the NSRI rescue craft
conducted sweeping line sea search efforts.’’
‘’Police divers are
continuing in an ongoing search effort. Our thoughts are with the family of the
missing man in this difficult time,’’ added NSRI Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.
