Man arrested for possession of drugs worth R1.2 million found hidden under oranges

A 64-year-old man was arrested after being in possession of drugs worth R1.2 million that were found hidden under oranges.

This comes after members of the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau intercepted a bakkie loaded with oranges along the R555 towards Delmas.

During the search, officials discovered narcotics concealed under the oranges.

Hawks Gauteng spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha, said they received a tip-off about the bakkie that was travelling toward Delmas and carrying drugs.

“The resultant search uncovered about 5kg of crystal meth valued at approximately R1.2 million. A 64-year-old male was arrested and charged for dealing as well as possession of narcotics”, he said.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
