National Sea Rescue Institute Wilderness duty crew were alerted at Victoria Bay following a 10 year-old girl that drowned at the Wilderness Beach, George, while her two relatives were saved from strong rip currents.
According to the NSRI, they rescued a young teenage male
and a 16 year old female from the mid surf breakers bringing them safely to
shore.
The male was unharmed, while the 16 year-old girl received
medical treatment as she was not responding.
Lifeguards then rescued a 10 year old female in the mid
surf breakers finding her unresponsive as well.
Despite CPR efforts from the medical crew to resuscitate the 10 year old girl,
she was declared dead.
“Lifeguards rescued the female to the beach where NSRI
rescue swimmers and a public member assisted the lifeguards to bring the
teenager out of the water.”
“CPR was continued by lifeguards, NSRI medics, and Western Cape Government Health EMS paramedics,” the NSRI said.
The NSRI sent condolences to the family of the deceased child.
Police have opened an investigation.
