Escaped convict rearrested by Koffiefontein police

Koffiefontein police have re-arrested escaped convict, 47-year-old Chris Potgieter, from Kimberley after he escaped on Tuesday.

Potgieter, who was sentenced for armed robbery in Kimberley, was taken to hospital in Bloemfontein, by a private security company, for medical attention. The convict escaped and the matter was reported to the Mangaung police.

The escapee was found within 2 days on the Luckhoff Koffiefontein crossing "looking for a hike," after the Rural Safety coordinator had engaged her local farmers. The off duty member mobilised one of her colleagues and the suspect was rearrested.

The suspect was handed over to the police and has been taken back to Kimberley prison where he will serve the remainder of his sentence. Circumstances that led to his escape are part of an ongoing investigation.
