More than 400 suspects arrested in illegal liquor shut down

408 suspects were arrested in Potchestroom, North West this past weekend for various crimes ranging from murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and common, amongst others.

Officers also shut down 15 illegal liquor outlets

“As part of enforcement of the Liquor Act, 1989, (Act No. 27 of 1989) 150 individuals were fined for drinking in public, 14 for being drunk in public place while 15 illegal liquor outlets were closed,” said Captain Aafje Botma.

The suspects are expected to appear in different courts in the Province.

The Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena reiterated that the government will continue with operations to ensure safe festive season.
