Eskom has somewhat given South Africans a Christmas present – a reprieve of load shedding.
The embattled parastatal suspended rolling power cuts at
5a.m on Sunday until 5a.m on Monday.
However, Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented until
16:00 on Tuesday, whereafter Stage 3 load shedding will then be implemented.
Eskom’s spokesperson, Sikonathi Manthantsha says the
suspension of load shedding on Christmas day is only possible due to the lower
demand for electricity
‘’Eskom appeals to all electricity users to conserve as
much electricity as possible during this period.’’
Manthanthsa warned that the situation could change at short
notice.
‘’The generation fleet remains unpredictable and
vulnerable. Should there be multiple failures of generators, a higher stage of
loadshedding may need to be implemented at short notice.’’
