Stage 6 load shedding implemented on Wednesday

Eskom has announced that stage 6 load shedding will be implemented until further notice.

The embattled power utility ramped up to Stage 6 load shedding on midday on Wednesday after previously announcing that loadshedding will be moved from stage 3 to stage 4 from Wednesday morning.

In a short statement released just before midday, the utility's spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha announced that power cuts will be moved to stage 6.

"This is due to a high number of breakdowns since midnight, as well as the requirement to strictly preserve the remaining emergency generation reserves.”

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town announced that its customers will be on Stage 5 until further notice
