A 42-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening, for the murder of a Grassy Park constable. The suspect shot and killed the 26-year-old constable on Thursday afternoon.
‘’The deceased member and his partner reacted on
information of an armed suspect in Blackbird Avenue in Grassy Park and during an altercation with the suspect, the
member sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his chest, while his partner escaped
the incident unharmed,’’ said Colonel Andrè Traut.
The SAPS spokesperson said officers made the arrest at the
suspects hideout in Ravensmead and that the 9mm pistol he stole during the
altercation with the SAPS members was found in his possession and confiscated.
The HAWKS has taken over the investigation. Meanwhile, the
suspect will make his first appearance at the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
The Western Cape’s Police Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Thembisile
Patekile is expected to visit the home of the slain Grassy Park constable in
Lavender Hill on Friday morning.
The Western Cape’s Police Oversight & Community Safety
MEC, Reagen Allen, has welcomed the arrest.
‘’Everyday dedicated men and women in blue risk their lives
to keep us safe. The justice system must run its course and the suspect must
face the full might of the law. My hope is that the judge must make an example
of this ruthless killer as he does not deserve to live amongst us.’’
