Western Cape police are probing a triple murder that occurred in Site C, Khayelitsha on Saturday evening.
The police's Andre Traut said the motive for the killing
could be taxi-related.
"Detectives assigned to the Provincial Taxi Task Team
are probing the circumstances that left three males with fatal injuries and an
innocent bystander with a gunshot following an incident Saturday night in
Khayelitsha. At around 20:15 police were alerted of a shooting incident on the
corners of Idada and Nyebelele Streets Site C."
"On the scene the bodies of two males were discovered
with gunshot wounds next to a Toyota Quantum taxi, while the third victim was
discovered inside the vehicle. According to reports four unknown gunmen opened
fire at the victims in what we believe is related to the taxi industry. The
bystander who sustained a gunshot wound was admitted to hospital for treatment,"
added Colonel Andrè Traut.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop on
08600 10111.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape's Police Oversight &
Community Safety MEC, Reagen Allen, described the incident as disturbing.
‘’This is yet another disturbing incident particularly so,
as a few days ago, three other people were also brutually killed in Bishop
Lavis.’’
‘’From an intelligence perspective - the need exists for
continued improvement to prevent these types of incidents from occurring. From
a resource perspective – it boggles my mind that there aren’t more SAPS boots
on the ground in the area. Khayelitsha has been an area where a number of fatal
mass shootings have occurred, yet we have not seen the required resources being
allocated,’’ he added.
