55-year-old man sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for theft of R3 million

A 55-year-old Welcome Marcus was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Stilfontein Regional Court for theft of R3 million at Nedbank in Klerksdorp.

Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso, said the accused and his accomplice were disguised as security officials when they robbed the bank on 11 April 2018. It was after the thieves left that the officials realised that the pair were fake securities.

The matter was reported to the Hawks, and the suspects were arrested in Johannesburg on 13 May 2018 following investigations.

The suspects first appeared in court and were each released on R30 000 bail. The case was later dropped against the second accused while Marcus made several court appearances until he was ultimately convicted.

The provincial head of the Hawks in North West, Major General Patrick Mbotho has saluted the investigation team for their good work.
