Eskom board chairperson, Mpho Makwana briefed the media on Thursday, the 15th of December following the resignation of its CEO, Andre De Ruyter.
De Ruyter handed in his resignation on the 14th
of December 2022, but has agreed to stay for an additional period beyond the
stipulated 30-days’ notice, whilst Eskom decides who to replace him
His last day at Eskom will be 31st
of March 2023
Makwana says he knew De Ruyter would resign,
but didn’t expect him to hand in his resignation this early
The chairperson said that plans are in place to
end load shedding overtime
Addressing the media, and Eskom CEO, Andre De
Ruyter says it was a privileged working for the parastatal, adding he’s
disappointed that he couldn’t finish the goals he set himself at the power
utility
De Ruyter says he felt his position had become
untenable
Public Enterprise minister, Pravin Gordhan says
programmes started under De Ruyters leadership will not be interrupted when he
leaves Eskom. Gordhon urged Eskom employees to continue to stand against
corruption
Gordhan thanked De Ruyter for being in this
position
