Matric candidates in Western Cape will only get results from 11a.m on Friday

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga thanked the Class of 2022 for the hard work they put into their studies.

Motshekga was delivering a speech during a celebratory breakfast at the MTN Innovation Center in Gauteng, on Thursday morning.

The top achievers and their parents were present. Motshekga encouraged the learners to continue working hard.

"We thank learners for putting in the hours and avoiding the well-beaten path to failure by being slack. We thank the teachers for recognising the spark of greatness in these learners and lighting a fire under. Success beckons success! Go forth and conquer!,’’ said the minister.

Motshekga will officially announce the matric results on Thursday evening at 6p.m.

This group is the largest full-time cohort of candidates that sat for the National Senior Certificate exams.

Candidates can collect their results, at the centre where they wrote their exams, from midnight. However, for those candidates in the Western Cape, they will have to wait until 11.am on Friday.

‘’We completely understand that our matric candidates are eager to get their results. Individuals results will be released in the Western Cape at 11a.m on Friday as we have done for many years,’’ said Western Cape Education MEC, David Maynier.

‘’There are a few reasons for this: Principals at schools across the country only receive the results on the morning of the 20th with the statement of the results for each learner. They must check the results and report or confirm any anomalies that they might find, they can then advise their learners not to panic if there is an error and how to resolve it,’’ he added.

Maynier said that principals can also identify learners that may require additional support, whereby the school can then arrange for counselling services to be available, should it be required.
